09 Jul What does success mean to you?
Comparing ourselves to others’ “success” can be a double-edged sword. Yes, we might find it inspiring but if not managed it can also have the effect of making our own successes seem futile.
We are all different and as such need to be self-aware and comfortable with what is important to us – and not feel we have to compete with others.
We all have unique qualities that need recognising and nurturing. This gets more complicated in today’s world of real time communications and media; social networks enable us to share what we are up to – what we have achieved, where we have been and how “successful” we are… people rarely share how things have gone wrong, how hard things can be… and life is not like that!
Success to one person may be financial, or status through work or position within an organisation. To others it may be how we approach our health or life balance or the relationships we have with family and friends- how supportive we are of each other.
The key is to identify what is important to us as individuals and work on that as a measure of success; not to compare with others.
So what does success mean to you? Spend some time thinking about it….
