04 Mar Leadership: “You can’t please all of the people, all of the time…”
Lots of debate on who originally said this… Abraham Lincoln?
Leadership can be a very lonely place; its not a popularity contest (outside the political environment, where you have to win to serve).
Leadership is a privilege that should not be taken lightly.
Tough decisions are generally tough because not everyone will be impacted for the best; some, many, could suffer because of that “tough” decision.
Leadership should also be outwardly focused- what is the desired outcome for the business/ team/ family… etc It should not be about how the leader can benefit from any decision, over and above the group that’s being led.
We have probably all seen or experienced great leaders…. And the not so great… in fact the antithesis of what a Leader should be. Those who are driven by their internal focus – what they want out of it, rather than what is best for the community they should be serving.
More on leadership later…
